Sound Of Metal

As someone who loves music—listening to it, playing it, and attending live shows, Sound Of Metal was one of the hardest films I’ve ever watched.

It’s an emotional story of a drummer, Ruben, who begins to lose his hearing. Directed by Darius Marder, the film is a raw and unflinching portrayal of the struggles that come with losing one’s sense of sound, and the impact it has on the individual and those around them.

The performance of lead actor Riz Ahmed was truly outstanding. His portrayal of the emotional turmoil and isolation that comes with losing one’s hearing is both heart-wrenching and genuine. The film also explores the theme of community and the importance of finding a sense of belonging and support when your situation unexpectedly changes.

Losing your hearing is tough for anyone. I cannot imagine the added struggle it must be if you are a musician or member of a band. This film is a must-watch for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those with hearing loss and the importance of empathy.

This movie won a number of awards worldwide, including an Academy Award for “Best Film Editing” and “Best Sound”, and when it comes to experiencing sound in this film, it will knock your sox off!
